International Schools Award - Global Citizenship at St James

Celebrating Our International Schools Award!

We are proud to announce that we have achieved the Foundation level of the International School Award through the British Council. This award recognises schools that are committed to embedding international learning into their curriculum and helping children develop a global outlook.

Why is this important?

The International School Award encourages schools to:

  • Give pupils opportunities to learn about other countries and cultures.

  • Develop skills for life in a global society.

  • Build connections with schools around the world.

By taking part, we are helping our children understand the wider world and preparing them to be confident, responsible global citizens.

What have we done so far?

As part of our Foundation Award, we carried out exciting international activities across subjects such as Art, Music, History, Citizenship, Science, and Religious Studies. For example:

  • We took part in a whole school International Week which focused on Africa

  • Furthered our links with the New Hope School, our Trust link school in Uganda

  • We explored cultural traditions through art and music.

  • We learned about global issues and how different societies respond to them.

  • We compared historical events and their impact across countries.

These activities involved all of our children, giving them a chance to think beyond our local community and appreciate diversity.

What’s next?

We’re not stopping here! We are now working towards the Intermediate level of the International School Award, which means even more opportunities for our pupils to:

  • Collaborate with partner schools internationally.

  • Take part in projects that deepen their understanding of global challenges.

  • Celebrate cultural diversity in creative and meaningful ways.
